DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental implants offer a permanent solution for your missing teeth. A dental implant is essentially a substitute for a natural root and commonly it is screw or cylinder shaped. Each implant is placed into a socket carefully drilled at the precise location of the intended tooth. Often the implant can be placed at the same time as removal of the tooth all on the same day.

The main aim during placement of any implant is to achieve immediate close contact with the surrounding bone. This creates an initial stability, which over time is steadily enhanced by further growth of bone into microscopic roughness on the implant surface.

In order to support replacement teeth, dental implants normally have some form of internal screw thread or post space that allows a variety of components to be fitted. Once fitted, these components provide the foundation for long-term support of crowns, bridges or dentures.

WHY IMPLANTS? Dental Implants are the gold standard way to replace missing teeth:

  • Implants do not interfere with or damage neighbouring teeth like bridge can.
  • No acrylic plate on the roof of your mouth.
  • Confidence to smile and eat whatever and whenever you want.

MISSING TEETH

MISSING JUST ONE OR TWO TEETH. This is the most common use of dental implants. If you have a missing tooth or two that leaves a gap in your mouth, one solution is the single tooth implant  Having a gap in your smile line can make you feel self-conscious when you smile or talk, and a gap further back in your mouth could affect how you bite or chew. The process involves a titanium implant being placed in your jaw where the gap is. Once the implant becomes firmly rooted, a tooth-coloured crown is fitted on top and will look like a natural tooth, matching the shape and colour of the teeth around it. This procedure has been clinically proven to be a safe and long-term solution to replace a missing tooth.

Traditionally we would provide a removable acrylic denture or we would cut down healthy neighbouring teeth to attach a bridge. Neither of these solutions is optimal. We now have the solution with dental implants.

LOST ALL YOUR NATURAL TEETH. If your have lost all your natural teeth you don’t need to wear loose dentures for the rest of your life. Implant dentistry offers a clinically proven and safe solution to getting back a great smile and being able to bite and chew with confidence. When you lose your natural teeth, your jaw bone and surrounding tissues start to resorb or disappear over time, which means dentures won’t always fit properly and the bone structure of your face will change, giving your mouth a sunken appearance.

When implants are placed in the jaw, it stimulates the remaining bone to grow and mesh around the titanium, along with tiny blood vessels. Ultimately, this will prevent bone loss from taking place, and give you a more youthful appearance. More importantly, implants help restore function so you can eat, chew and bite without your dentures falling out or having to stick to a soft food diet for the rest of your life.

Craig Beeley will be able to assess your mouth to assess if this is suitable for you. We are looking forward to making you smile again.

DENTURE STABILISATION

Love your dentures, but just wish they were tighter? Wearing dentures which feel loose can lead to difficulty in eating certain foods or speaking clearly especially in social situations. Thanks to dental implants we can stabalise your dentures and give them an anchor to hold them in place. This is one of the simplest implant treatments that we do, but one that provides the biggest change to a patients life.

You will still be able to remove your dentures whenever you want to allow cleaning, but they will stay in put while eating and talking.

This treatment is most often used for lower dentures which tend to be the loose ones. However many patients once they have experienced a tight lower denture also want this for the upper denture. This is absolutely possible. It has the great advantage on the upper jaw that we no longer need to cover the palate to hold the denture in place. This help reduce any gagging feeling and patients often comment that food tastes better again.

The benefits are:

  • Dentures feel tight again
  • We can now make beautiful natural looking teeth.
  • Eating is much easier and more pleasant.
  • Upper denture has no covering on palate
  • Bone and gum are maintained by implants
